HOLLYWOOS CASINO & MOBILE, AL

We elected to stay at the Hollywood Casino RV Park on the Bay for two days. Glad we did. What a deal; $30 a night for the first night & $15 for the second night. They give you $25 per person for gambling credits. Arrived Wednesday so this was the night for 2 for one buffet. They really go all out on the buffet. For me I never got further than a salad, the sea food & a piece of chocolate pecan pie. On the sea food line there is shrimp, crayfish, snow crab & catfish. The snow craw is excellent. Well we managed to lose all but $10.50 of our credits. The Casino has a 15 story high rise hotel.

Our moves have been about 200 miles in length. So we arrived in Mobile Al. in the early afternoon. Time enough to take in two attractions. The first one was down to the deep water port to tour the battle ship US Alabama; she was retired after World War II. Carried a crew of 2,500 men. We also toured a World War II Submarine...concluded submarine duty was not for us. Don,t wear a cowboy hat on a submarine.

Our next stop was at the Bellingrath Gardens. The late Mr. Bellingrath made his money in Mobile in the early 1900s bottling & selling Coke a Cola. Then built his gardens then his home.
The azaleas were in full bloom along with several other flowers; so pretty. Well worth your time to visit the gardens.

Saturday we again toured the downtown Mobile Historic district. Mobile is easy to find your way around. A charming city with many old restored plantation type homes. After lunch we took a drive to Dauphin Island. A quiet resort area...much like or Monterrey, Ca. area. That made our day. Tomorrow off to the Panhandle of Florida via the scenic route.

Wish you were here...Roger & Pat
